  • Winter Meetings

    Winter meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. on one Friday each month and take place in Room 179 of the Chemistry-Physics Building on UK's main campus unless otherwise noted.

     

    Friday, January 22

    BGAAC will meet at 7:30 PM in Room 179 of the Chemistry-Physics Building on UK campus to hear Dr. Tom Troland talk about "Journeys into Space - Who Needs Humans?" A business meeting will precede the talk.

    Friday, February 19th

    BGAAC will meet at 8:00 PM in Room 179 of the Chemistry-Physics Building to hear Bradley Canon talk about "Where Are They? Hypotheses About Why We Haven't Been Contacted by Intelligent Life in the Galaxy."

  • Public Stargazing at Raven Run Nature Center, March-October 2010

    The Bluegrass Amateur Astronomy Club will hold public stargazing programs at at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary once a month during March-October 2010. Programs will take place on the following Saturdays:

     
    Saturday, March 13        Saturday, July 10
    Saturday, April 10 Saturday, August 14
    Saturday, May 15 Saturday, September 11
    Saturday, June 12 Saturday, October 9

    Meetings begin around sunset and last two to three hours. There is no rain date. The main gate at Raven Rub is open for parking and park personnel there will direct you to the observing field.

    Persons with telescopes can drive up a dirt road by the barn (turn off just before the main gate) and park at the edge of the observing field.

    If the weather is partly cloudy, phone the park around 6:30 p.m. (859-272-6105) to see whether it's a go. If you would like to check on weather and seeing conditions, you can also check the Raven Run Clear Sky Clock.

    The last public stargazing event for 2010 at Raven Run will take place on Saturday, October 9.
